Court bars police from arresting OAP Nedu over ‘N83m contract dispute’
The federal high court in Lagos has restrained the inspector-general of police (IGP) and other officers from arresting Nedu Wazobia, the on-air personality.
Deinde Dipeolu, the judge, issued the interim order on Tuesday after considering an ex parte application filed by Nedu and five others who alleged harassment by the police at the instance of their business partners.
The order barred the IGP, the assistant inspector-general at Alagbon, and officers including Ngozi Braide, Stephen Onihane, and Echeng Julius from summoning or interrogating the applicants over a contractual disagreement.
Other applicants in the suit include Sarah Williams-Konha, Avalon Okpe, Ada Okpe, Barbara Okwaranobi and Tokindrumz Pictures and Media Ltd.
Nedu’s legal team argued that the police were being used to intimidate them despite earlier investigations by the X-Squad, which cleared them of criminal liability.
The police legal department had also advised that the issue was civil and should be pursued in court.
The dispute stems from a partnership in 2024 between the applicants and Tolulope Ariyibi-Oke under the Metropolitan School of Business and Management.
The project, an educational fundraising gala with a budget exceeding N83 million, was held in March 2024. However, the respondents later demanded a refund of N60 million, which Nedu’s team rejected.
The case was adjourned until September 29 for mention.
The NGO dispute spilled into the public space after controversial activist VeryDarkMan accused Nedu of fraud in connection with the project.
Nedu, however, denied the claim and issued a cease-and-desist notice demanding a retraction, an apology and a N500m notice of defamation lawsuit.

‘How pubic perception cost me my potential marriage’
Boma Akpore, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, has opened up about how his relationship, which was headed toward marriage, came to an end.
In a podcast interview with Chude Jideonwo, Boma revealed that his partner’s family rejected him, citing concerns about his public persona.
Boma said he had planned to propose to his partner in August, even going as far as planning a trip to the US to buy an engagement ring.
However, their relationship came to an end when his partner’s family disapproved of their union.
Boma stated that his fame and public scrutiny contributed to the family’s rejection.
He described the experience as discouraging, saying their relationship was “amazing” despite normal ups and downs.
Boma said, “I met someone that I really liked, and I was going to marry. I was supposed to be engaging her like last August. I was going to go to America, get the ring, bring it back because I liked her, and I told her I was going to marry her.
“It was an amazing relationship; we had a little bit of ups and downs, but it was perfect. I thought we had a perfect relationship till the family got involved and said, ‘This guy? Hell no, impossible.’
“So that collapsed everything, and that was very discouraging. If I were not in the entertainment or public eye, nobody would know some things about me. Once you come to the public, that is the prize you have to pay.”

Mercy Eke: I’m open to motherhood despite my single status
Winner of Big Brother Naija Season 4, Mercy Eke has expressed her views on having children, stating she wouldn’t mind if it happened outside marriage.
In a podcast interview, Eke said she would keep the baby and not be affected by societal stigma.
Speaking on her plans, Eke revealed she desires three children, preferably two girls and one boy, and isn’t so keen on marriage.
“I won’t go the extra miles to get pregnant out of wedlock. But if it just happens, I would leave it and I would have my baby. I want three kids; two girls and one boy or three girls. I love female children.
“Even if don’t get married, I would still have kids. What most people don’t know is that the stigma of being a single mother only applies to women who don’t have things going well for them”, she said.
According to her, single mothers who are successful aren’t judged harshly, saying, “The women [single mothers] that are shattering glasses, men are begging them for marriage.”
Eke expressed confidence in her own life, stating, “I can get married tomorrow if I want to. But what I want in a man, I have not seen it. It’s not like there is no suitor. There are plenty… So, even if I have a baby, I would still see a man”.

Olamide responds to backlash over Wizkid ranking
Rapper Olamide has addressed the controversy surrounding his recent comment ranking Wizkid as the top Afrobeats act after Fela Kuti.
TheTrustNews.com reports that the uproar began after Olamide made the remark during a press briefing in Toronto, Canada.
The rapper acknowledged differing opinions, saying the industry is wide enough for every artist to thrive.
Olamide emphasised that music lovers can support their preferred artists without diminishing others’ work.
He wrote: “Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever. You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they’re A-list, B-list, or anything else. Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose – there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone”.
He noted that top artists like Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are unfazed by opinions, focusing on their craft instead.
“However, one thing to remember is that Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get offended by someone else’s opinion or perspective. That’s part of why they’ve reached where they are today,” Olamide wrote, urging fans to respect differing views.
